Imat is the territorial island of the Greth tribe. Numerous channels of water cut the island into sections and connect a series of large lagoons. The Greth live in thatch roofed houses that stand on stilts over the waters and sands of the lagoons, beaches and water ways. The Greth spend most of their lives on or near the water. Their diet is mostly fish, crab and seaweed.

The Greth are known as the “people of the sea”. They are tall and well proportioned with brown skin. They are known for complex tattoes worn by both genders. These strange markings are almost geometric - spirals, wavy lines, concentric circles, patterns of dots - forming a language of sorts. They indicate important events in life - children, marriages, voyages undertaken, enemies killed and so forth.

The Greth are expert sailors and they have the most advanced boats. Greth long boats are double hulled - two longboats, equal in length, and connected to each other by central beams of wood. This design makes them stable and swift. This central platform between the parallel canoes allows for storage of food, hunting materials and nets when embarking on long voyages.

The Greth venture further out to sea than any of their brethren. Not only do Greth longboats visit all of the Fire Isles, they regularly visit the Aswanar Wildlands, Eshtar and even Magrakor. The Greth frequently transit between the Fire Isles and the eastern shores of Aggradar and have several permanent fishing villages there.

The Greth visit all the Fire Isles and interact with all the other tribes. Sometimes this is trade, sometimes war. The Greth often raid other tribes for food and treasure. They often take captives – both native and foreigners.

The Greth harbor a secret known to few outside of their tribe. The entire Greth tribe is loyal to, and faithfully serve, the archmage Tolkarus who dwells in Mount Durrodis. They serve him as spies throughout the region and bring news to him. They also regularly bring captives to the shores of Aggradar and hand them over to other servants of Tolkarus. Whether Tolkarus has won their adoration through bribery, trickery or magic, who can say?
